A little bit about Psyche Mental Health Centre...

Where did it all start?

Although our name may be new to you, our service has been long established within the Hobart community (as the Crawley Clinic Hobart).  Our director, Allison Wells, came on board in April 2020, having worked as a sole trader and contributor to a mental health practice on the Eastern Shore.  With a desire to take up a challenge, Allison accepted the opportunity to take ownership of the practice and has busied herself in growing and expanding the services we offer to the Hobart community

What's in a name?

Pronounced Psych-ee (not Psych, it’s a Wingardium LeviOsa not LevioSA kinda situation) the name holds significant meaning for our Director, drawing on both a love of ancient mythology and psychology.  Allison has been an ancient Greek mythology tragic from quite a young age and, as such, the name pays homage to Princess Psyche, mortal woman and wife of Eros, who was elevated to immortal status and made Goddess of the Soul having been subjected to a number of labours seemingly unachievable to a mortal.  In cognitive psychology, the psyche is the totality of the human mind, conscious and unconscious.  As such, for our centre, Psyche represents the meeting of both the mind and the soul.
